Tibet研究

The main areas of focus will be: 1) the ways in which many of the ethnic groups of Nepal have emerged, in relatively recent times, in response to a national legal code based on caste stratification; 2) the evolution of Tibetan kinship terminology, and how this reflects changes in the political organisation of society; 3) Tibetan marriage systems (such as fraternal polyandry), which suggest the emergence of a ³house society² and 4) the phenomenon of regionalism, and how this relates to the cult of sacred mountains on the one hand and, on the other, the need for a pan-Tibetan identity both in the People¹s Republic of China and in the diaspora community.
